Things You’ll Need for Chocolate-Filled Churros
The main ingredients that you will need to prepare the chocolate-filled churros are flour, butter, egg, water, heavy cream, chocolate, and sugar.
As you will see later on how to make Spanish churros, some kitchen tools that you will need to make these ones are a piping bag with a star tip, and a small piping bag with a filling nozzle or syringe for adding the melted chocolate.
Ingredients
For the churro dough
- 1 cup (240ml) water
- 1 cup (120gr) flour
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons butter
- A pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Oil for frying
For the coating
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup (200gr) sugar
For the chocolate filling
- 120 gr dark chocolate (chopped)
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
How to Make Chocolate-Filled Churros – Step by Step Guide
- To start with the chocolate-filled churros recipe, grab a small pot and melt the butter, then add water with a pinch of salt. When it boils, add the flour and stir until you get a sticky yet homogenous dough. Remove from the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Now, add the egg and vanilla extract to the churro dough. Mix until it gets fully combined, and make sure that there isn’t any flour lump left. You should get a smooth and glossy dough.
- After that, grab a frying pan and put around 2 inches (5cm) of vegetable oil, or enough to cover the churro. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
- Then, pipe 4-5 inch (10-12 cm) strips of dough directly into the hot oil, cutting the ends with kitchen scissors or sharp knives. Fry up to 3 churros at the same time, so as not to overcrowd the pan.
- Next, cook the churros for 3 minutes per side, until they get a golden colour on the outside. Remove and place them on a plate with paper towels, to drain the excess oil.
- To continue with the authentic churros recipe, grab a shallow dish and mix the sugar and cinnamon.
- After that, carefully roll warm churros in the mixture until well coated. Set them aside for a bit.
- To prepare the filling for this Spanish churros recipe, heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan until just simmering. Remove from heat, add chopped chocolate and let sit for 2 minutes, then whisk until it’s slightly thick but still pourable. Stir the butter for a silky smooth result.
- Now, use a piping bag fitted with a small filling nozzle or a syringe designed for injecting fillings (a plain round tip works well). Spoon the melted chocolate into the piping bag or syringe.
- Then, with the help of a skewer, chopstick, or the nozzle itself, create a tunnel inside the churro. Insert it gently from one end to the other, being careful not to break it.
- As a key step in this homemade churros recipe, insert the nozzle of the piping bag or syringe into one end of the churro. Squeeze gently while slowly pulling the nozzle out to evenly distribute the chocolate filling.
- To finish the recipe, repeat on the opposite end to ensure the entire churro is filled. Serve the chocolate-filled churros and enjoy.
Substitution of Ingredients
The chocolate-filled churros is one of the most complete recipes for churros that you can find, yet still, there are some replacements that you could follow.
Just like the traditional churros recipe, this one calls for a coat of cinnamon sugar, which you could replace with white granulated sugar by itself, or dust some powdered sugar on top.
If you are short on time, you can prepare this authentic Spanish churros recipe but use dulce de leche as the filling (soften it with a bit of heavy cream before).
We know how scary it can be to make chocolate stuffed churros for the first time, and at the end of the day, you should enjoy the process, so if you find it too hard, simply turn them into churros with dipping sauce.

Tips on Serving Chocolate-Filled Churros
As you can guess by their name, the chocolate-filled churros already have the chocolate sauce inside of them, so for serving you simply have to put them on a plate.
If the best homemade churros get too cold, you can reheat them in the oven at medium-to-low temperature for just a couple of minutes.
This recipe for Spanish churros is usually served as a dessert or an afternoon snack, as they might be too heavy for early morning (unlike breakfast churros, which are perfect for that time).
If you have loved ones coming over and they have dietary restrictions, then you can make the wonderful keto churros, the delicious churros without eggs, or the fantastic churros without butter, so they get to enjoy this treat.
How to Store Chocolate-Filled Churros
The easiest way to store the chocolate-filled churros is to place them in a covered container and keep them at room temperature for up to 8 hours.
Besides that, once you finish preparing the easy churros recipe, you can put them in a container and take them to the fridge, where they can last up to 2 days.
In both cases, reheat the chocolate-filled churros in the oven or air fryer for a couple of minutes, so they get crispy and warm again.
Some Spanish churros recipes that can be stored for longer include the churro cheesecake with strawberries, the churros with dipping sauce, and the churros cake.

Notes
As a helpful tip for this simple churros recipe, if you find that the chocolate is too runny, just add a bit of heavy cream and let it cool slightly to thicken before filling.
We know that making churros filled with chocolate can be intimidating, so if it is too complicated or they start to break, you can simply drizzle the chocolate sauce on top or use it as a dip.
For healthier churros with chocolate inside, instead of frying them, you can bake them (piped onto a parchment-lined baking sheet) at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes.
